People donated $25 to participate in a "Donation Walk" with their pet in support of Hunter, who turns 4 this month. 0ih uanes Florence Stewart Smith Billy Dwayne Blackwell Dennis F. Surface February 9, 1944-July 27, 2012 Dennis F. Surface passed away on July 27, 2012 in Lompoc, CA at the age of 67. He was born February 9, 1944 in Charleston, WV to parents John and Maxine Surface. His primary employment was in Florence Stewart Smith, age 90, passed away onMonday, July 30, 2012.

Funeral services will be on Friday, August 3, 2012, at the Carl J. Mowell Son Funeral Home in Peachtree City at 5 p.m. with Brad Bishop, First Counselor of the Peachtree City Ward Bishopric presiding and conducting. Visitation will be held on Friday starting at 4:00 p.m. Graveside service and burial at the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery in Lompoc, CA will be on Tuesday or Wednesday, Billy Dwayne Blackwell, known to friends and family as Blacky, passed away peacefully on August 1, at Los Robles Regional Medical Center at the age of 77.

He was a resident of Lompoc, where he retired after a long career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Blacky was a Veteran of the United States Navy, a proud 32nd Degree Freemason and an active member of several fraternal organizations, including the Lompoc Elks, Moose and American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Lillian, daughter Denise and son-in-law Craig Burns of Thousand Oaks, daughter Diane of Florida, granddaughter Cherry Lynch of Kansas, step granddaughters Joanna Burns and Danielle Foster and their children Charlie, Ryder, Sara and Dylan, all residents of Camarillo. An avid fisherman, Blacky was happiest out on a boat with a line in the water. His no-nonsense attitude and strong work ethic resulted in several Awards of Achievement from the Federal Prison system.

Those who knew him will remember him as a man who lived his life on his own terms. He will be missed by many. Services for our beloved Blacky will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2012, at the Freemason's Lodge at 2786 Crescent Way in Thousand Oaks, at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Hospice of the Conejo. He held similar positions to include HH various managerial positions with major Hl defense contractors (foreign and domestic) working overseas in various countries as well as the US. Dennis was a US Air Force Veteran serving at Adana, Turkey, and at Plattsburg AFB, NY. He was a past member of the Eagles, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Amvets, the Loyal Order of Moose and the NRA. He was a Life member of VFW Post 1717, and was twice Post Commander of American Legion Vandenberg Post 125 in Lompoc, California. He was also a Life Member of the Non-Commissioned Officers Association.

He had many close friends at the American Legion and the VFW in Lompoc. He also developed and enjoyed long lasting friendships in countries around the world. Dennis is survived by his brother, John David Surface of Long Beach, CA, his adopted brother, Gary Brandenburg, niece Terry Conway, nephews and cousins, aunts and uncles, as well as his best friends; Frederic Elliott and Katherine McCullough. He was preceded in death by his parents Maxine and John, his sister Emma Lee, and his best friends Lolita and Gil Sattler. Internment is to be determined at Rose Hills Cemetery in Whittier, CA.

Donations may be sent to the Veterans' Memorial Bldg. 100 E. Locust Lompoc, CA. Aug. 7 or 8, 2012.

Douglas Pike, former Bishop of the Lompoc Ward, will preside at the graveside service. Florence was born on November 12, 1921 in Hinckley, UT. She had five sisters and five brothers. She is survived by sister Mary (Vance) Abbott of Delta, UT, sister Jean Caldwell of Yorba Linda, CA, brother Reed (JoAnn) Stewart of Magna, UT, brother Duane (Ivania) Stewart of Bellingham, WA and Brother Don (Liz) Stewart of Bountiful, UT. Also living are son Fred (Loretta) Smith of Tyrone, GA, daughter Lorie (Marc) Gookin of Hillsboro, OR, and daughter-in-law Kathy Smith of Evans, GA.

She has nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother Walker Stewart, parents George and Clara Stewart, sister Delna (Dee) Arthur, husband Fred Smith, sister Norma (Bud) Pate, son Lyle Smith, brother Lyle (Via) Stewart, and sister Joy (Myron) Christensen. She was an excellent wife, mother, homemaker, cook and seamstress. Florence worked for the Lompoc Record Newspaper as a secretary. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
